With reference to the writer's call this aftemoon, we beg
to give you below particulars as to the position in which our firm 18 at present placed in Hongkong:-
Our firm was originally established in China in 1866. At the time the original founder was a German, and the firm was natural- ly registered in the German Consulate and has remained so registered ever since, though the founder of the firm subsequently became a naturalised British subject.
At the present moment the partners are partly British born and partly German. The firm's head office is in Shanghai, and the senior partner is a British born British subject.
On the outbreak of hostilities we have communicated with
the Board of Trade regarding the status of our firm, and it has been
confirmed to us, that we are at liberty to carry on our trade so far
as British, allied, or neutral countries are concerned, without a
special license. This was further confirmed by the recent pronounce.
